FAQ
lostandfound.help is a service for lost property. Owners of a FinderCode are contacted when their FinderCode is found, with the goal of retrieving their lost property as quickly as possible.
The Finder Code is ultimately a unique 8-digit alphanumeric combination of numbers and letters, affixed to a carrier, such as a key chain. Each combination therefore exists only once!
In the event of a lost and found item, the finder can contact lostandfound.help via a live hotline and report the find. Real-life contact persons will record the lost and found item details and then contact the owner directly.
The aim is to report the incident to the owner as soon as it becomes known and to provide the owner with the details of the lost item so that he or she has the opportunity to retrieve his or her lost item promptly.
In anonymous cases, the support team at lostandfound.help also assists with correspondence between the finder and the owner.
The finder can also report the find directly online. In this case, the owner will be contacted immediately by email and, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., by phone from the support team.
Real representatives from the lostandfound.help support team are available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (CET) on the live hotline at +49 9181 522 99 00. We have several employees, are located worldwide, and speak several languages.
Our live hotline is not only accessible from outside, our support team also proactively calls owners and finders in the event of an emergency, with the goal of returning the find to the owner as quickly as possible.
The owner's data (name, telephone number, email address) will never be shared with third parties, including the finder, without the owner's prior consent. This means the brokerage service is completely anonymous for the owner, and misuse can be ruled out.
Only with the owner's prior express permission to share data with the finder will the support team comply with this request, and correspondence can take place directly between the owner and the finder. This can be advantageous in certain situations.
However, the finder's data or the lost property data are not anonymous. The finder is informed of this. Without their consent to share lost property data (this does not need to include their name or phone number), no loss can be reported to the owner.
The FinderCode itself is essentially free. The carrier on which the FinderCode is attached costs vary (see item prices).
Using the aluminum plaque with engraved FinderCode as an example, the purchase price in the online shop is €5.99 including VAT. The purchase price always includes the first year (12 months) of license fee for the referral service from the date of registration of the FinderCode; in this example, that's 49 cents/month.
The renewal costs for the license - regardless of the issuing authority - are as follows from the 13th month onwards:
- 1-year extension net €5.04 / gross €5.99 (similar to a 1-year subscription); corresponds to gross 49 cents/month.
- 3-year package renewal net €12.60 / gross €14.99 (instead of €17.97); corresponds to gross 41ct/month – saving €2.98 compared to the 1-year license.
- 5-year package renewal net €20.16 / gross €23.99 (instead of €29.95); corresponds to 39 cents/month gross – saving €5.96 compared to the 1-year license.
Yes, of course. There's no Finder Code twice, never!
After purchasing the FinderCode, you can register it online here . This will also activate the license. Registration requires your FinderCode, your name, phone number, and email address. We will use this information to contact you if necessary.
No, once registered, contact details cannot be changed for security reasons.
Basically, yes. You'd just have to change the pendant each time. It would be better to get another FinderCode, so you don't have to change the pendant.
For security reasons, unfortunately, no. So, if your name, phone number, and/or email address change, you should replace this FinderCode with a new one, including re-registration.
Otherwise, in the event of an emergency, there is no guarantee that we will be able to reach you and get your item back.
No, we want everything to be as simple as possible. You only need to enter your contact information (name, phone number, email address) once during registration – your personal FinderCode will then be linked and immediately active.
So you don’t have to create an account or set a password.
The license is valid from the date of registration.
The license is always valid for one full year (12 months) upon re-registration of a FinderCode and is included in the purchase price of the device. To prevent the FinderCode from becoming invalid, the license must be renewed before it expires. The safest way to maintain validity is an annual subscription, as this always renews automatically in a timely manner.
Discounted 3- or 5-year packages are also available.
You automatically receive the RememberCard when you purchase a FinderCode. It allows you to write down the contact information you provided during registration (FinderCode, name, phone number, email address). Keeping it in a safe place means you can easily refer back to your original contact details if needed (e.g., if your contact information changes). Please note that for security reasons, registered contact information cannot be changed. In such cases, it may be advisable to activate a new FinderCode.
Generally no, because as long as the data is current, it will only be used to contact you in case of an emergency. If this information is no longer correct, it will be difficult or even impossible for us to notify you that your FinderCode has been lost.
An expired license deactivates the FinderCode and immediately deletes all associated registration data. The FinderCode becomes invalid and can no longer be reactivated.
Yes, we will send you a reminder email to the email address you provided during registration.
Definitely not! Deactivated Finder Codes, i.e., Finder Codes whose license has expired, become invalid and can therefore never be reactivated.
